Some of you know that I like to help at the Fellowship Garden here in Elkin.  The fellowship garden is located off of 268 and is a 2-acre community garden. The garden relies entirely on volunteers to plant, harvest, and donate an average of 8 tons of fresh produce annually. Volunteers are welcome on Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday starting around 8. We would love to have you join us! I try and be there on Saturdays.
It might seem crazy that I spend my time away from the garden at home, doing more gardening, but it feeds my soul in a few different ways. The first being that I love not being in charge of the garden! It helps to connect me back to growing food in a way that is removed from me trying to make a living. The second, and most personally important, are the people who work at the garden. Every single person who helps at the garden is a shining example of humanity and goodness in our community. I learn from them every time I am there and my family gains so much from being close to these kind and wonderful people. I am so proud of the produce that comes from the garden and all the places where it gets distributed.
